A new airline is coming to the Flower City this spring.
Starting in May, nonstop flights between Rochester and Charleston, South Carolina and Raleigh, North Carolina will begin via Breeze Airways, a low-cost airline, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced Wednesday.
Breeze will begin service to four destinations twice a week with nonstop flights to Charleston and Raleigh from the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport. The new routes will also include the company’s “BreezeThru” service, which allows passengers to stay on the same airplane and continue on to New Orleans, Louisiana or Orlando, Florida, Bello said.
The Utah-based Breeze Airways, led by former JetBlue founder David Neeleman, has rapidly expanded its network since it launched in 2018, by focusing on underserved markets and offering nonstop flights that “make travel easier and more accessible for passengers,” according to a news release from Monroe County.
The airline calls itself the “seriously nice” airline and classifies its seats as “nice” for a standard seat, “nicer” offers additional legroom and one included checked bag and “nicest” is akin to first-class, according to the Breeze Airways website.
“We continue to see strong demand for our unique service between the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic region, making Rochester a great fit for our network,” Neeleman said in a news release. “We’re excited to expand our service to more travelers in upstate New York and look forward to welcoming new guests from the area in the coming months when service begins.”
Bello said that the new routes will provide Rochester area passengers with additional affordable travel options to “sought-after destinations.”
“Whether you want to explore Charleston’s coastline or Raleigh’s vibrant music venues — Breeze’s inexpensive, non-stop flights make it simple, and the BreezeThru service adds extra value,” he said.
“Flying local, Flying ROC is more important than ever,” said Airport Director Andy Moore. “The more passengers fly from home, the more the airlines take notice and increase the non-stop routes from ROC.”
